The senior editors are thrilled to present the 2024 spring edition of Umbra. As our final issue before we graduate, it’s been exceptional.
The magazine represents the Creative Writing department’s dedication to quality and craft. This particular edition meditates on how mental health, place, and spirituality contribute to identity.
This issue includes Season 2, Episode 1 of our student-led podcast, Unreliable Narrators. With the help of Anya Groner, the Creative Writing Podcasting class recorded an interview with local author, Adrian Van Young, about his recently published short story collection, Midnight Self.
New with this release is a series of micro-podcasts that delve into the challenges of teenagers today, at both a personal and societal level. It’s called Setting the Record Straight.
In addition, this issue features the Creative Writing Level II interview with Taylor Byas, author of the poetry collection I Done Clicked My Heels Three Times.
Eme Struckhoff, our Art Director, is a Level III student in Visual Art. She designed the cover banner and curated the abstract digital artwork, which we matched with each piece of writing. We’re tremendously grateful for her beautiful contributions to the magazine.
We know you’re sad to see us go, but the future of Umbra is bright. We have full confidence as we pass the reins of this magazine to the next generation of editors.
Thank you for your continued readership and support. Enjoy!
Sincerely,
The Umbra Editors
