This issue of Umbra represents a lot of change and growth for both the magazine and the creative writing department as a whole. We have a wonderful collection of work in this issue, including a recording of our collaboration with the Jazz department from last school year.
Umbra has undergone great change as we switched from one art editor to two new ones, Trinity Smith and Emma Wahnsiedler. It has been an incredible experience creating the magazine together with these new voices, and we feel the art used in this issue reflects the talent of these two editors and all of the Visual Arts students whose work was used.
Though not in print, Umbra has made a return to the physical world with our collaborative event with the Media Arts department, Penumbra. Taking place simultaneously with this issue’s release, Penumbra was a takeover of the NOCCA campus, featuring art and writing from the issue, projections, live readings, sounds, and immersive spaces. It was a delightful experience being able to collaborate with the Media Arts department and was a wonderful learning opportunity for both departments. The result was impactful and new not just for Umbra but the Creative Writing department.
We hope you enjoy this issue of Umbra,
Sincerely the Umbra Editors.
