In the Details; Poems of Varied Topics

Mailynn Debouse

I

Way down in shimmering streams

swam creatures ever so beautiful

fins flapping delicately in rhythm

twisting slowly around each other

and against multitudes of scales

exuding a vibrance like no other.

Bubbles surround the great area

traveling towards the many paths

existing in the dense and translucent

space that is the river stream.

Pebbles of all shapes and sizes

small and round and smooth

align alongside one another

occansionally jostling once

given the smallest push from

everlasting vibrations and currents.

Those near examine what appears;

a grand blue river

with fish and pebbles within it.

II

Earthy smells linger all around

from leaves to blossoming berries

and occupy the crispness of the air

ever-persistent in expanding

its horizons further and further.

Fauna scatter along the forest floor;

a mother bear and her tiny cubs

all varying shades of wooden brown

trog down an open path,

thin branches snapping underneath

their mighty toughened paws.

Squirrels skitter along other paths

fast tip-taps accompanying their beings

and stared down chapped difficult dirt

in front of stiff and mighty trees

deciding the best spot to bury acorns.

Those near examine what occurs;

a grand and vast forest

filled with flora and fauna alike.

III

Small movements;

the twitch of an eye

the jerk of a mouth

the bouncing of limbs

from fingers to toes.

It soon becomes clear

that these are the signs

of something suppressed

in order to seal

joy itself.

Grand movements;

wild eyes fluttering

deep dimples present

all limbs shaking and

jittery with speed.

It now becomes clear

that these are the signs

of something unleashed

in order to feel

human joy.

IV

Crushed to tiny bits

beneath their cold palms

is an array of rose petals

wrinkles forming lines

that cross one another

like the finest and softest

piece of textile art.

Their texture again is soft

enough for a finger to

glide itself over its surface.

Colors from every bit of

the spectrum exists in

this miniature bouquet;

the striking allure of red,

the luminescence glow of white

the tranquil state of blue

the tender comfort of pink

the vibrant ecstasy of orange

the hospitable touch of peach

and the curious nature of coral.

V

See:

rocky grated sidewalks

manipulated wooden benches

swirling marble-esque vases

a being known of yourself

Touch

sharpness of each pebble

bumpiness of wooden planks

smoothness of every glass piece

the creaminess of body lotion

Smell:

dirt emitting strong smells

dryness of nature’s plants

clean and pure glasses

sweetness of vanilla

All three seem to blend

and twirl around each other

creating a tornado that

summons dizziness and

overwhelming bliss.
